Ricochet Tech Support area

This is the department where I worked at Metricom before its shuttering in 2001.  I worked in the Tech Support department, on the second floor of Metricom's new down-town San Jose building.

Some of the people I worked with...
John - Director of Tech Support - John mastered the art of balancing his focus on company well-being with an equal focus on concern for their employees.  He always listened closely to what we had to say and was very open about his thoughts and plans which effected the group and often took our input when deciding how to proceed.

Steve H. - Tech Support Manager - As you can see from all of the computers on his desk, Steve H. had a lot of irons in the fire.  Still, he always had the time to ponder when we came to him asking how unusual situations should be handled.  What amazed me most about him was that he sometimes biked to work from Santa Cruz over the hill to San Jose!

Steve G. - Tech Support Lead - WYSIWYG!  This picture says it all!  Steve G. spent the day overseeing the quality of our operations.  As busy as he was all day, he always had time to chat as well as give us the gentle guidance we need to give quality support to our resellers and end-users.

Kelly and Bee - Kelly and Rebekah specialized in monitoring trouble tickets submitted to our resellers.  Although way mellower than that wild Ausie in the old Energizer battery commercials, Kelly reminds me of him.  Bee was quite ambitious and was the type of person that would spend hours analyzing complex network problems until she understood exactly what the nature of the problem was.

Dave - There's one in every tech support group.  The guru dude with the beard and long hair and the vintage equipment scattered all over.  Dave specialized in many highly technical projects which required his level of expertise.

William - Mild mannered, yet determined, William was quite analytical and methodical at uncovering many PC related issues which impacted our product and was often the first to convey such findings to the rest of the group.  He operated an internal web site on his machine, on which he posted many of these findings.  William was hired at about the same time as I was, which gave us a kind of kinship.

Lily - Sassy and classy, Lily lit the office with a vibrant cheerfulness.  Although she was the Tech Support group's most recent hire, Lily brought a great deal of Macintosh expertise to the group.

Jesse was my primary trainer when I began working at Metricom and was methodical but always patient during my learning process.  He worked the early morning shift, coming in at 4:00 AM.  What's more incredible is that he commuted here from Los Banos!

David had been heavily involved with working with our resellers to help us provide a better product to them.  He left the group to work in the Applications Engineering group, (shortly before Metricom's closure), and his cubical was hence forth referred to as "The David Ly Memorial Library."
